Shiny & New: The Perks of Contemporary Homes

In Cambridge and Somerville, much of our local housing stock is in the 100-year+ age range, but we do also have a sampling of contemporary and even new-construction homes on the market. And what they may lack in historic pedigree and turn-of-the-century detail, they often make up for in modern conveniences: Floor plans for today’s lifestyle

Better than the retrofitted gut renovations of old Victorians that we see a lot of, homes built in the last ten years are generally designed for the way we live today, featuring open-layouts, spacious closets and master suites.

Creature comforts

With contemporary homes, you often get perks that we sacrifice with older homes. Things like central air conditioning, garages (sometimes even heated!) and bathrooms with double sinks all make daily life just a little bit nicer.

Modern construction & systems

Practical things like up-to-code electric, with ample outlets and circuitry that can handle both lighting AND a hair dryer cannot be overrated! Add to this modern plumbing, effective insulation and energy-efficient windows and doors — you get the picture Safety features

Finally, newer homes may provide an extra level of safety and peace of mind with fire sprinklers, wired home security systems and no pesky lead paint to worry about.
