Hike for a Cause

Contributed by Amanda Tweed

With the skies turning blue and the temperatures warming up, everyone, it seems, is looking for opportunities to be outside.  Here is a great local one that combines an amazing outdoor experience with a project that benefits women escaping from domestic violence:

Wilderness Heals is a three-day women’s pledge hike which raises funds for the Elizabeth Stone House–an organization in Roxbury that helps women and families rebuild their lives after experiencing domestic violence, mental illness, substance abuse and other forms of trauma. The Stone House provides residential and non-residential programs, as well as an emergency shelter for those who are in immediate need.

If you’d like to participate in the hike, sponsor a hiker, or just find out more, visit the website or contact Amy Howard at 617-427-9801 x 415 or ahoward@elizabethstone.org. There will also be an informational session on Saturday, May 8 at 11 a.m. at the Cary Memorial Library at 1874 Massachusetts Avenue in Lexington, MA.
